Town property vandalism solved
Man charged in damage to cameras, windows
BETHLEHEM ? Police arrested a 29-year-old Lake Drive resident Tuesday for smashing cameras and windows on town property on two separate nights in December.
John P. Mahon Jr. confessed to Resident State Trooper Cono D'Elia last Wednesday, D'Elia said in a sworn affidavit, leading to Mahon's arrest and arraignment Tuesday. Bantam Superior Court Senior Judge Elizabeth A. Gallagher released Mahon on a promise to appear at a hearing Jan. 29.
"I vandalized the cameras and windows at Long Meadow Pond and Town Hall in Bethlehem with no specific person in mind," Mahon said in his written statement, according to the affidavit. "I committed this action because I feel I have no one to turn to. I believe there are people plotting against me but I'm not sure who it is. I don't know who to retaliate against. I'd prefer to forget about it and lead a normal peaceful life."
